Abstract
Educational studies or business studies and vocational education? Notes on the discipline's self-conception
Abstract
This paper traces a (historical) presentation of different positions, whereby the key thematic focus is on the ‘Viennese tradition of business studies and vocational education'. Whilst in Germany business studies and vocational education is mostly defined as a sub-discipline of educational studies, the current author represents a rather different position. From a strategic perspective it would seem that a close connection of the scientific community with educational studies would be sensible, but in terms of academic systems a preference is expressed for locating business studies and vocational education as an independent discipline. The focus of the contribution is on business studies and vocational education because the pedagogy of vocational training at university level enjoys a lower level of esteem in Austria , as compared with business studies and vocational education.
