Abstract

Im ersten Abschnitt erfolgt eine Darstellung spezifischer Charakteristika der österreichischen Wirtschaftspädagogik vor allem im Vergleich zur Tradition in Deutschland. Da trotz Polyvalenz sich rund 50% der WirtschaftspädagogInnen für eine Unterrichtstätigkeit in der beruflichen Erstausbildung entscheiden, erfolgt eine Darstellung der zentralen Besonderheiten der österreichischen beruflichen Erstausbildung im internationalen Kontext. Da die österreichischen Wirtschaftspädagogen primär in beruflichen Vollzeitschulen tätig sind, die neben einer „Employability“ für betriebliche Handlungsfelder ebenso eine Studierfähigkeit zu vermitteln haben, ergeben sich aus dieser Bildungsstruktur spezifische Fragestellungen und Anforderungen. Während beispielsweise in Deutschland das Berufsprinzip dominiert und zur Optimierung einer berufspraktischen Vorbereitung in den Berufschulen das Lernfeldkonzept umgesetzt wurde, dominiert in Österreich das Fächerprinzip. Die Vorbereitung auf die Studierfähigkeit impliziert die Notwendigkeit ein fundiertes betriebswirtschaftliches Orientierungswissen zu vermitteln, unter anderem durch Nutzung der fachwissenschaftlichen Systematik.

In einem kurzen historischen Abriss wird auf die Entwicklung der Wirtschaftspädagogik in Österreich eingegangen, die seit den Anfängen zu Beginn des vorigen Jahrhunderts stets institutionell an Wirtschaftsfakultäten „beheimatet“ war. Die bis heute gültige einphasige Studienstruktur bedingt eine enge Verknüpfung der Wipäd-Institute mit der Schulpraxis sowie – im Gegensatz zu Deutschland – eine eindeutige Zuständigkeit der universitären Wipäd-Ausbildung für die Professionalisierung der AbsolventInnen.

Im zweiten Abschnitt stellen die vier österreichischen Wipäd-Standorte (Wien, Linz, Graz, Innsbruck) ihr Ausbildungs- und Forschungskonzept sowie generell die Lehrstuhltradition- und Philosophie vor.

An overview of business studies and vocational education in Austria Regional variations of curricular areas of focus against the background of a specific vocational education and training landscape

Abstract

The first section presents the specific characteristics of business studies and vocational education in Austria , in particular in comparison with the tradition in Germany . As, despite, the breadth of the qualification, around 50% of the graduates decide to teach in initial vocational training, there follows a presentation of the key particularities of the Austrian system of initial vocational education in international context. As the Austrian graduates of business studies and vocational education are primarily employed in full-time vocational schools, which are intended to transfer ‘employability' for occupational fields of action, as well as the ability to engage with higher study, specific questions and challenges emerge from this educational structure. Whilst in Germany , for example, the principle of the vocation is dominant, and the concept of areas of learning was implemented in order to optimise occupational and practical preparation in vocational schools, in Austria the principle of the subjects is dominant. Preparation for higher study implies the necessity of a grounding in and initial knowledge of business management, amongst other things by using systems of subject knowledge.

A brief historical section outlines the development of vocational education and business studies in Austria . The discipline has always, since its beginnings at the start of the last century, been institutionally located in business faculties. The one-phase degree structure, which still applies today, requires a close connection between the institutes of vocational education and business studies and school practice as well as – in contrast to Germany – an unambiguous responsibility of the university-based degree in vocational education and business studies for the professionalisation of graduates.

In the second section the four Austrian locations of business studies and vocational education ( Vienna , Linz , Graz and Innsbruck ) present their teaching and research concepts as well as their departmental traditions and philosophies in general.
